I've wondered how the newer Durangos handle towing. I have a 2004 we used to pull a 24' 5000lb loaded TT. Pulled it great, a bit slow (35mph) up steep mountain grades but did fine.
The 2004-2009 Durangos had a very stiff square tube frame and solid axles. An SUV on a rather tough truck frame and suspension. Aren't the newer Durangos built more for creature comfort than for towing? Meaning, independent suspension and not as heavy of a frame?
That said the 5.7L Hemi handled the load just fine although 6,000lb loaded would be our limit in mountainous regions. The newer 5.7L has a bit more torque than our 2004 and slightly better mpg.
