Experience with internet purchases

We cannot get the trailer we want in our city, but can purchase it at what seems like a good price form LakeShore Rv in Muskegon, MI. This is 800 miles from where we live, but we would make a vacation out of the pickup trip. Has anyone dealt with this dealer, or had problems with a similar situation?

The local dealer may not want to, but I do not think it is a choice if they are a Rep of a line.

This doesn't mean it will be done in a timely manner, but it is their reputation on the line also.

My best advice is to offer the local dealer to match price and unit. If they cannot than ask them how they will warranty issues if you buy elsewhere.
  • I negotiated over the phone and emails, drove about the same distance to purchase. Never exchanged any money until I could see the TT. The dealer had it all set up inside for me to check it out when I got there (Feb purchase in the cold).

At worst I would give a deposit, but are they really going to sell that trailer in the day its going to take you to drive there?

The only concern I had was where to bring it for warranty. The closest dealer for me couldn't match the price and knew I was travelling for a different TT. They said they would still perform any warranty issues. I never had any issues that I couldn't handle myself with the factory and dealer I purchased from. I had a few issues at the PDI that were fixed on the spot and a couple I fixed with parts sent to me at my house.

  • My last two purchases were over the net and phone. My wife found the EXACT color she wanted and (of course) no one close had one. Our Kodiak was just outside of Louisville KY (about 9 hours from us) and our Sunset Trail was just three hours away. In both cases, we have a very thorough inspection before signing on the dotted line.
  • 800 miles is just over the hill, I,d not buy a unit site unseen.BUT I HAVE BOUGHT units like this, I make a deal over the ph, or net , that it will be bought at a set price ,AFTER INSPECTION. done twice with no problems, GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING.
