Was looking at the GM site today - found GMC with Extended Cab but Chevy with NO Extended Cab.GMC site says it's coming in 2014 - but nothing on Chevy site ...So - I've always elected GMC even tho in essence it's the same vehicle. And personally, can't imagine buying a double cab or a single cab in a PU Truck ... it's beyond my imagination to drive anything but a X-cab SB 4x4 in a PU ...So, anyone know what's what with this one - seems odd that a high selling style - like X cab - would be discontinued. I remember the Astro/Safari Vans got discontinued - and I still own my 1999 Safari (200k miles) and would buy another one if it was available. But, a mini-van is too small for our wants, and a full-size van too awkward and oversize. Wonder if I always fall in a minority with vehicles, as the styles I like the most seem to discontinue.

It looks Chevy is now calling it a double cab.

Looks like a double cab tho, on Silverado, not an extended (half) cab like in the past.Look at GMC page, then look at Chevy page - it's different, shorter.

Definitely get the GMC. They use lock washers, Chevy doesn't.

GMC doesn't do that, or hasn't to this point in time.You gotta watch them though. When you take it in for service the dealer replaces the special carburetor with a standard one...... Yes, but with the suicide door extended cab, the entire side of the cab is wide-open with both doors open!

A double cab with four forward-opening doors is limited to the width of an individual door.

I fall into the same minority as you do. I had a '97 Astro. If GM still made them I would buy another in a heartbeat.

Exactly why my last 2 trucks are extended cabs. I don't want to leave it outside, I want an 8 foot box, and I don't want to have to add onto a garage to fit a vehicle.

We have no kids, so we love our extended cabs.

You do know a crew cab and ext cab have the same back seat and it's only the door length that changes the cab configuration.

I don't know about the new trucks but this is not true on the 13s and down, totally different.

I will miss the suicide doors, I like to looks of the extended cab trucks.

the bow tie emblem is larger than the GMC emblem for a reason.....the bow tie emblem gets put over the location that a GMC emblem would fit on vehicles that do not meet GMC standards ;)

Dodge went with four forward-swinging doors for the rear seat in their extended cab trucks... boy it seems like the late '90s to me.

Not a full crew cab truck. Same extended cab sized rear seat, just forward-swinging doors.

The thing I'd miss about the suicide door extended cab is being able to load stupefyingly large boxes into the cab.

I've always been a Ford man with the exception of a Toyota SR5 back in the 90's. They have always served me well and never left me stranded....but these new trucks look VERY appealing.

The double cab comes with a 6'6" box. Total length is 19'1.5".

I do really like the usefulness of the double cab. I was able to put a cord of wood in the box, and have a toolbox across the front. It has made driving and parking my 2500HD CC much more work.
