Extended Warranties

Just started looking at extended warranties that can be purchased. Did look at the Good Sam but haven't really looked into the nuts and bolts of the policies. Looking more for anyones real life experience with extended warranties. Would consider Good Sam just because of the name recognition thing but don't know how good they are in real life.

why give them your money? they don,t cover much,. put the money in a jar and start your own, that way you,ll know its covered. DO BUY a good road service plan. like GS or coach net.

That's the advise I'm looking for. Thanks midnightsadie. Will consider that. I'm somewhat competent in DIYing but not great and have NO TT repair experience. Just want to cover my a$$ if needed when out with a TT.

My thought exactly. This way you are in control when something needs service. You don't have to argue or beg. Roadside service is the way to go. By the way... not many problems on travel trailers. Keep the tires and bearings in good shape and you can take it for sevice where ever you want.

No, absolutely not. Don't fall for the upsell. Just google "RV extended warranties worth it?".

Make sure you get your TT into the dealer before the expiry of 12 months and make sure you go over it with a fine tooth comb. If you have an ongoing warranty issue in the first year that remains unresolved, send it to the dealer in writing so you have some recourse. We had brake issues on our first TT that took over a year to fix and a complaint in writing got it done in the end.

Something like Coachnet is good, but otherwise, keep your money and put it into some nice RV accessories.

Thanks for the advise everyone. We're soon to be new entries into the RV experience and love reading this forum for all the real world experience you all have. We would rather learn from your experiences than on our own. It is greatly appreciated.

Buying used is a risk all on it's own, so you have to do your own due diligence from that stand point alone before you decide to buy..

It's usually the appliances that will cost you the most for a TT.. Sure, if there are leaks and such, that can ruin a rig too, but that's gotta be part of the initial inspection to uncover..

Can't comment on the road service, as I've never had it and can change a tire if needed.. If the engine fails while on the road, I'll just call a tow truck and go from there... But, that's just me.

Bottom line is what will let you sleep at night?? Meaning, will you stay up all night worrying about what 'could' happen if you don't have the coverage, or will you stay up wondering if you'll recover your investment??

When I bought my TT 12 years ago, I opted OUT of the extended warranty that would have cost me #1200 for 5 years of extra coverage over the 2 year factory warranty it came with..

To date, nothing has failed appliance wise and the little things that I found along the way, I've taken care of myself. I've done a lot of my own "mods" along the way too, so i'm pretty confident in being able to do my own work as needed..

Good luck with the decision... You either "win", meaning you have so many problems with your rig that your "investment" pays off in repairs, but is that really "winning"?? I mean, if you have that many problems, it can't be a fun thing to deal with?? If you "lose", meaning, you don't have a single claim, but you didn't have any issues with your rig, at least you didn't have the headaches of all the repairs... :)

I feel I "won", because I didn't have any issues over the past 12 years and I didn't hand anyone $1200 in the process.. :)

I agree with these post's. GS ERS or Coach Net yes. Extended Warranties companys tend to go out of bussiness and start another company leaving you out the money of the warranty and the repair.

They offer a selection of warranties with various degrees of coverage. I have one of their products, and it has paid a few rather expensive claims. You must understand that warranties do not cover everything, and you must follow their rules to the letter...Wholesale warranties acted as my agent and helped me follow all the rules. You must get prior authorization for repairs, and you do not get reimbursed for repairs you make yourself.
For me, it pays to have an extended warranty, as if gives me peace of mind for major repairs...like basement a/c, hydraulic jacks, and a transmission...all covered over the years on different rigs.
