I've never bought an extended warranty for anything (cars, television, cell phones, ceiling fan, etc.). I therefore cannot be a judge on the value of an extended warranty plan. I can say, however, that most financial advisors/money gurus I've heard over the years have advised against it. They claim that if you manage your money well in the first place, then this is a waste. The argument is that if you CAN'T manage your money well, then you shouldn't be buying a nice vehicle anyway. To each his own, I guess. I would have a hard time with $2200 especially if they want to add it to the payment (and let it bear interest). But $1000 to $1500 would be enticing for a diesel truck if it truly extended well beyond the base warranty program and if they let me pay it in cash upfront.
