They wanted $2,200 for another 3 years 100,000 miles,I didn't buy it.Thats GM price.
That price is absurd. 8 years 100K miles isn't bad to warranty until though. With the modern diesels and all the expensive parts I would consider the warranty for substantially less money.
My old SUV had a 10 year 100K mile powertrain warranty when I bought it new. I figured it was stupid, anything that might break would happen before 3/36. Well, 7 years after buying it and the week before we left for a family trip 500 miles away I saw a puddle of trans fluid under my SUV.
Had it towed to the dealer under warranty and fixed under warranty. It was something stupid like a guide plug in the trans. I cannot remember the cost, but it was over $2500 DEALER COST to fix it. I'm sure if I had been a cash customer it would have been much more.
Next new car I bought was the bride's car. Bought the extended warranty for an additional 5 years for a reasonable price. After the factory warranty expired her radio died. Took it in to the dealer, they replaced the radio under warranty. The radio cost more than I had paid for the warranty! Radio died a second time before the warranty expired. Even if I had replaced the stock radio with an aftermarket twice, I still came out ahead with warranty.
Bought the 8 year on my truck. Last year I heard a horrible grinding noise in the rear. Turns out my rear bearing was going bad. They wanted over $2000 to replace them. Covered under warranty. I paid less than $700 for the warranty which saved my from a $2000 bill. I still have 3 years left on it too.
