You mean the aluminum where the auto rafters hit the camper , no thoses are part of what I had to do to mount the awning
No factory backing , studs are over a few inches
Lower mount I pulled the rear lights out and slid alum plate up behind the siding
At the top I used a flat piece of alum all the way across to attach the hanger mold for the fabric
The only drawback to having more holes in the auto rafters is when you have the awning all the way out it and want to retract it , it will stop in the other holes on the way in , one more step
But I get more use out of the awning half way out that all the way out anyway
