I agree that oversize differential covers are waste of money, but I am strong believer in synthetic oils.
With differentials lasting for 1/2 million miles, the extension of differential life might not be strong point, but synthetics give less friction, meaning the gears run cooler and easier >>> saving you gas money.
Not to degree you can see at each fill up, but difference is there.
