I think on my 08 the factory specs call for syn gear oil, 80-140 rear, 75-90 front. That's what I use. The covers just make for easier oil changes. The 11 1/2 rear isn't the weak point, your tranny is if you haven't had it rebuilt HD. If it's a manual, it's the clutch.
