Hi all,I have a '06 Ram 2500 5.9 6 speed that I love, but I've outgrown it. My wife and kids were complaining every time we went somewhere about the small quad cab. So it's time to upgrade.I found a 2013 F-450 Platinum that is pretty darn loaded, and that crew cab is huge. It's got 30K miles on the clock which I know isn't even broke in on a diesel.What can you guys tell me to look out for? I'll have a lot of questions if I buy it, which will be tomorrow if that happens. I already put a refundable deposit down on it.It's primary job will be to yank around a 16K lb 5th wheel toy hauler which the truck won't even feel. I wanted to ask here because of your real world towing experience and the variety of makes and models members here drive.Thanks,Troy

Check the maintenance records, it should still be under warranty.

The 6.7 is a great engine. Good luck, what price are they asking for it?

Verify your insurance situation. I know one camper who was not very happy when they bought an F450 and couldn't get insurance without a bunch of restrictions on it. All was fine when the 5er was hooked up, but once unhooked they considered it a commercial truck and would not cover it if something happened, like say, an accident during a run into the grocery store for supplies. That, and constant breakdowns, made them trade it in on a Dodge after a year.

Exactly. Most likely you will have the carfax type report also.

Wow, thanks for the replies

It is still under the factory warranty and I got them to include a 6 year 75K extended bumper to bumper.

$60000 for the truck

I got the carfax; it's 100% good.

I didn't think about the insurance thing. I'll definitely check on that ahead of time!

I can tell you that the 450 will be an issue for insurance in CA. Thats why we stuck with the 1 ton designation.

It looks like the valve and turbo problem were mostly for the 2011 trucks. Did they continue to have these problems into the 2013 model?

What truck would you recommend nowadays with a large cab and capable motor?

Just me Bob but most of the other forum tags are really more time than I have. Guess I'm a slow reader :B But Joediesel videos are always cool. Just wait till its 115 in that Riverside shop with a problem child in one of his bays. LOL thats when the language can be rather, um , special for cable TV stations.
I haven't kept up on the Ford boards OP, but its been quiet on this one with the Ford brand of 6.7 engine.
6-75 warranty is nice unless your name is ricatic, AKA the biggest blue oval cheerleader who got burned with Ford warranty. Old news :B I suppose.
