I've never bought a vehicle out of state but I'm sure California DMV would hammer me with extra taxes and fees if I did. It would be nice to buy somewhere cheaper than in this expensive state, but I don't know if it's possible.
I bought the TV in sig. while living in Cali from out of state. Little bit of paper work, and I had to go down and scale it for the good ole Cali DMV ( boy I don't miss them). The out of state selling dealer will not charge you sales tax or for tags. They give you a temp tag good for like a week.
The new Rams are 50 state legal now, not so much back in 2006 :E
