Shiner, minor correction. RAM is maxed out on Ecodiesel production and sells every one they produce. They can't make any more Ecodiesels than they are now (and they already expanded capacity as far as they can for now at the VM factory). This maxes out at about 15% of all RAM 1500's produced being Ecodiesel equipped. Ford probably sees that RAM can't keep up with the market and why it's probably a good idea to jump in while there is an actual scarcity in a market with demand. These will be interesting times in the near future. I think Ford will have ultimately more Diesel building capacity and we can get a good picture of what the overall take rate would be on a diesel half ton since they're probably better equipped to meet market demand.
I keep a somewhat tight ear to what is happening in the pickup truck world and I have never heard of the Ecodiesel sales being limited by production besides the first huccups Ram had in 2014 when they engine just came out. You would think that they would have figured out how to meet demand in 2 years if this engine was so popular.
In my neck of the woods, which so happens the truck capital of the US, one look into a few dealerships inventory and you can clearly see the same old ones still in inventory. Heck even my the dealership, Bluebonnet Chrysler, which sales a lot of Rams in the area don't like to keep that many in stock because they don't sell nearly as fast as the Hemi. However, they are forced to order some due to how the manufacturers inventory policies work. One of my good friends is a sales manager there.
