F-150 Leaking Fluid

My DW drives a 2010 F-150 PU. The other day, she discovered a fluid leak coming from the exhaust area below the transmission oil pan. It's a clear liquid and it appears to be coming from the area of where the exhaust cross-over goes for the left side to the right side.
I think it's just water from condensation that typically runs out the rear of the exhaust pipe? I have to agree that the fluid does have an oily feel to it, but it does not leave a stain on the concrete. I do not know of any fluids in a vehicle that is clear as far as the transmission/crankcase is concerned.
I'll have to get it in to a Ford garage to get it checked when she gets home. Any suggestions or ideas on what the problem could be? I know there is many new types of fluid that have come around, but as far as I know, transmission fluid is still red? :h

  • Clear fluid with a black outer circle? Just water from the joining section of the exhaust pipes.
  • I would look where it is co0ming from.

In the past I have stuck my fingers in such puddles rubbed them together and smelled them. That will give you an idea.
  • I've seen a trans leak from there in the past. Does it only appear clear because not enough fluid has accumulated? Did you dab it with a white paper towel to confirm it is clear? Trans fluid can appear clear if there isn't much of it in the first place. I can assure you that Ford's trans fluid is still pinkish/red. When a friend's truck leaked, it was nearly clear and ever so faintly pink when I dabbed it onto a paper towel. But it definitely smelled like trans fluid and it was a leak right out the rear shaft.
  • If you ran the defroster...the AC pump was on...that is how they 'dry' the air
before heating it though the heater core
  • It wouldn't be from the AC, it's been too cool for that anyway. I had thought just condensation because of the clear liquid. But I'm used to that coming from the rear out the exhaust pipe. I also thought that maybe there was a gasket leak up front that was causing the"water" to leak from the area. The liquid did have an oily feel to it, but I figure it's from the residue in the exhaust? Oh well, whatever the reason, I'll get it in to Ford to insure there's not a problem. I'll keep you informed if it's anything else. Thanks
  • I'm going with water too. Anything else would not be clear, and would not evaporate
