I'm fine with using any oil as long as it meets the specs for my manufacturer. Some just specify a grade and an API rating, which is what I think the case is for Ford. Others have their own special ratings, like CES20081 for my Cummins, ACEA C3 for a VM Motori diesel (Ecodiesel), DEXOS for GM vehicles, and that 500.1 or whatever it is that VW or Audi like to use, etc... I know Ford has some special specs they call out, usually a number code like Ford Spec WSS-ABCD123. If your manual doesn't have that, then whatever oil that has the proper grade and API rating should meet your needs. You can go synthetic if you like on top of that.
I just buy what I can easily get that meets the specs for my motor and has the properties of a synthetic (Higher flash point, more stable viscosity over use, better cold pour behavior).
