Okay here's the scoop. I re-read the DMV fee rates and it's confusing. So I just called and the lady on the phone says the fee is the same for both a 3/4 ton and 1 ton. Guess I was right the 1st time. Maybe someone form Oregon can verify my findings.
Looks like registration for under 26000 lbs is $77 and over 26000 is $90. Not sure if that is per year or not, either way its not too bad.
In the Peoples Republic of Maryland a regular car costs $187 for 2 years.
A truck under 7000 lbs is $161 for 2 years.
A truck from 7001 lbs to 10,000 lbs is $214 for 2 years
A truck over 10,000 lbs is $214 for 2 years, plus a $17 EMS fee (per year) and $9 per 1000 lbs every 2 years.
That means that my Tundra, with a GVWR of 7200 lbs was required to be registered for up to 10K lbs, making it LEGAL to overload by 2800 lbs.
That means that a Ram 3500 with a 14K GVWR would cost $284 for 2 years.
On top of paying an additional $70 every 2 years, there are some roads around me where a vehicle with a GVWR over 5 tons is prohibited. There are some communities where a vehicle with a GVWR over 5 tons cannot park on a street or visible from the street.
