No doubt in my mind that the EcoD will get better mileage.
Better than EPA's hwy for the EcoD; for some reason diesels are always beating their EPA hwy by a significant margin; seems VW TDI owners always exceed it. Maybe it's higher speed cruising than EPA does.
And when tow/hauling up to max loads, the diesel will get better mileage than the turbo gasser. My F150 3.5L EcoB gets 20mpg unloaded; not too bad. But when fully loaded towing the new 7500# trailer, I only get 10mpg. No better than most V8s. Even the big diesels would do better than that; maybe 25% better. Unfortnunately the RAM EcoD is too light weight a truck for my trailer, but I'm sure it would also do much better.
Turbo gassers are ok mileage-wise when not pushed, but they're not much better than the big V8s when lead-footed or worked hard. As they say, it's "eco" or "boost".
As for costs (initial and ongoing) ... well that's another story.
