I know what you mean by wanting the step for ease of getting in & out of the box. I use mine on a regular basis and I wouldn't be with out it. The step that the 2014 GM Twins have incorporated into the bumper is only about 3" lower than the top of the bumper and it is basically useless when stepping down from the box.
