I'm not any sort of a brand loyalist, and I don't get hung up on whether or not the truck I choose is the best choice for someone else. But when I was shopping for a new 1/2-ton truck earlier this year, I noticed the Fords offered more payload than the competitors. I test drove both the 5.0L and the EB. The 5.0L was quite impressive, way better than the 5.4L I test drove several years ago. Great power, with that awesome V8 sound. But the EcoBoost really intrigued me. What I found weird was that it accelerated so quickly, but didn't really make much noise in the process. I pushed my foot down, and it just... went.
I, too, had concerns over complexity of the engine, can a V6 really do this, etc. So I took the easy way out: I leased. I'm committed to only 3 years, I can experience for myself how well I like it, and I can keep on eye on other people's experiences as they put more miles behind them.
So far, I love driving it, but the only towing I've done is from the storage lot to my house, which is about 5 miles. It definitely gets moving easier than my Ram did, but that's more a function of gearing than anything else. I'm looking forward to seeing how well it performs on the open road.
