Towing with a half ton is limited by the max cargo capacity which is unique for each vehicle. It is often posted on the door jamb.
My F-150 with a 1411 lb. max cargo is fine with my 700 lb. tongue weight and my DW, dog and camp gear.
I have been told that some F-150s have a max cargo as high as 1900 lbs. while the lowest figure I have heard of is 1200 lbs.
So, I suppose a large TT is possible. Also, some folks do not mind overloading their TV; especially pick-ups. They just accept the increased wear and tear.
