F150 to F250, am I missing something?

If you need to stay under 10,000# I would also suggest a 6.2 gas to get more payload as the diesel is about 500# heaver. I would assume that you are looking for stable tow.

The other option is to do some investigation before buying the cost and issues with registering a truck over 10,000#. Is it a one time hassle, or is it a hassle each time and is it he hassle, or cost?

From what I found yesterday night the hassle of registering an F350 is not as bad as I was thinking because it will be registered under my personal name. The only thing I will need is the official weight of the truck showing it is under 4000kg (8800lbs) so I can avoid registering like a truck.

Coming from an EB that can tow at 1600RPM quietly and comfortably I will not consider a 6.2. I'm not rich but money is not the issue here.

The maximums printed on the hitch are for how much the hitch can handle and has zero to do with the truck properties.

The reason I quoted your original statement in the other post, along with my "question" about tongue and pin weight is because those weights are directly subtracted from your payload which leave the remainder payload for passengers, hitch and anything else loaded in your truck. Your original quote is actually very wrong about payload not being important.

Take a 10,000 lb travel trailer properly loaded for 13% tongue weight (~ 20% pin weight for a 5'er), that 1300 lbs is directly subtracted from your payload . If your truck only has around 1500 lbs payload, that leaves only 200 lbs for hitch and passengers. Payload is a crucially important number for knowing if you are towing under manufacturer suggested weights and not overloading.

As is mentioned many times by the forum mod...

I don't know much about this topic, probably already in over my head....I just read the specs that come w/my vehicle and try to stay within those parameters and of course I learn from this forum too....which is very resourceful...

I just bought a 2009 F250 extended cab, XLT, 4x4, short bed with the 5.4L V8 gas engine. It's payload sticker is listed at 2437 lbs.

We have a 2012 F250 at work, crew cab, 4x4, short bed, XL, with the power convenience package, and the 6.2L V8 gas engine, that has a payload just over 3000 lbs.

I bought my 2009 knowing I was going to be sticking with my 24' toyhauler, which is 5100 lbs dry, and rated for 9500 lbs or so max loaded, for quite some time.

I like a covered bed, so don't see ever buying a 5th wheel. I still work fulltime, and get out when I can, which isn't as often as I would like. It is also a daily driver, hunting, fishing, weekend chore doing vehicle.

The payload was one of the things I checked before buying it, and should do everything I want.

I don't need diesel for my use. The gas gives me more payload as well. The XLT also meets my needs and is a good compromise between having a few nice things, and spending a lot more money for a nicer (and heavier) trim package.

I honestly don't understand buying a diesel engine (I am not anti-diesel by any means) in a 3/4 ton truck. The payload limits you before you ever get the most out of the diesel engine. If I had a need for a diesel, I would buy at least a 1 ton SRW, if not a dually. For most 5th wheels, I am not sure I would even look at a 3/4 ton.
