My dealership story: I bought a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 from a VW dealer in 2004. I knew what I was looking for and this had the right specs (7.4L, 3.73 gears). The tried to put a $500 "marketing fee" in their price sheet. I objected and they said everyone pays it.
I had inspected the 'Burb, and noticed that it was equipped with passenger tires. So I said to them that it wasn't safe to drive off the lot. They called BS on me. So I asked them if I could prove to them it was unsafe, they would take off the $500 and the cost to make it legal.
The hyper-aggressive sales manager agreed. So I showed him the door sticker with the recommended Load Range "E" tires specs. Then I showed him that the 1200 lb. max load rating on the "P" tires would be way below the curb weight of the 'Burb as it sat on the lot.
So I won the wager and got $1000 off (the bogus $500 fee and the cost to replace the tires).
Moral of the story: The only one I can depend on to know what vehicle I need is me.
