- grampscamperExplorerI have mine set to the rearmost position. I have lots of clearance in fairly tight turns.
- 4x4ordExplorer IIII started with mine set as far back as possible. I ended up moving it to the most forward position and felt it towed nicer (the truck seemed to ride better). I'm always mindful of the tight clearance between the trailer and back window.
- walker111ExplorerThanks guys. I currently have the rear setting but have good clearance also and feel moving it ahead 2 " will make it even better. When I weigh everything, my front axle only changes 10 pounds so either way is fine.
I am going to reset the pivot arms this weekend and next trip out go to a big parking lot and try some turns.
What kind of pin weights do you guys have?
Happy camping! - Cummins12V98Explorer IIILong bed truck, set the side supports FULL forward and be sure the "straight" side of the supports are towards the cab. Always better to load the front axle than remove weight. Yes I know it is not a lot of weight. For me running full rAWR it's best to add to the front where there is capacity available.
- walker111ExplorerMy bed is 6.75. I am moving the pivot arms forward 2" as per BW directions. I can't see it transferring a lot of weight forward but no concerns, and yes, I agree that adding some to front is ideal. I weigh everything and my wet pin is 2700-3000 depending on loading the garage.

I highly advise checking clearances with a fixed hitch and SB truck. - grampscamperExplorer

I would think my pin weight is very similar to yours. I haven't weighed mine yet but expect it to be close to 3,000 lbs. We just returned from a trip to New Mexico from Toronto. I have mine set to the rear and it handles well. If you set it forward be very careful making sharp turns. I lost a rear window last year. It was with a different hitch that was a couple of inches forward of my current setup.
Good luck. - walker111ExplorerThanks. Took a few measurements and need to change the pivots and try a test tow with turning! We did a big 10 k trip crossing country last year as well. Calgary to Cape Breton and trip was great. One way to find out!
- Cummins12V98Explorer IIII highly advise the B&W slider/puck hitch for SB trucks. Don't need a slider til you do!!!
