Im a bit confused.. I have read several post talking about mats fitting the intire bed of truck in oder to give full support for fiberglass campers. My Northern Lite fits between wheel wells, there is no part of my camper that fits either behind or in front of the wheel wells. The area in front and behind wheel wheels is empty. So in actuality my camper is fully supported by a 4' x 8' mat or plywood.
Are you sure about that?.. better look again??....Your tailgate opening is more than 4ft wide...why do you think most campers fit so tight at tailgate opening....I do remember some 8ft campers years ago without flare behind wheel wells ....
Yeap, nothing behind rear wheel wells, just empty space. The over hang backs right up to my tail lights. The overhang on right side is where my Onan is and the left side overhang is where the dump valves are.
My 10-2 widens out as wide as the tail gate posts and up close to the wheel wells.
Any soft pad rubber or rigid foam is hard on fiberglass camper without having plywood support for a flat base. This due to the truck manufacturers 1/4'' deep bed corrugation not able to support the fiberglass body or base sides exactly right at a point where most of the weight and pressure exists. Needs to be a fully supported flat surface for an evenly spread load with plywood.
My overhang widens out on my 10-2 to be as wide as my truck bed, but the basement floor that sits on the bed does not and their is nothing either in front or rear of wheel wells inside the truck bed.
