Factory Warranty Extension for Repairs

I purchased my trailer new in Jan of 2014. I enjoyed it all summer and made a list of warranty issues including some significant issues with the slide alignment. I dropped the trailer off Dec 3 at an RV dealer for repairs. I spoke with them just now and they are telling me that it will be at least another 4 weeks before the parts will be ready.

I am glad that Passport has performed all repairs without any question or issue but I will be without my trailer for over 2 months by the time the repairs are complete. Does this extend my factory warranty by the amount of time that they are working on it?
  • Most of the stuff was small but the main reason I took it in was because the slide was gauging the fiber glass when it went in and out. Repairing the slide is what is taking so long. All the rest of the repairs are done.

This picture doesn't do it justice. It has gotten much worse over the last few months.
  • The above reason is why I do all my own work unless it's structural damage.
  • The way some dealers work:

    - you phone the dealer for an appt. which is a week or 2 away.
    - dealer looks at TT, then contacts the factory for authorization which takes another week or 2.
    - your TT sits on dealer's lot waiting for parts which takes 2 - 4 weeks.
    - parts arrive and then dealer schedules the work to suit their schedule which is another couple of weeks.

Overall time can thus easily end up being 6-8 weeks, all the while being susceptible to break-in or damage. Some dealers are just as busy during the off-season doing insurance repair work so it can be just as difficult to get an RV in and out of their shop. God help you if you need warranty work in the camping season...

Dealers often get parts shipped with new TTs being delivered to them which can be part of the delay.

Good luck on getting the warranty period extended, unless you had it written into the purchase agreement which I doubt they would agree to. Also a more difficult argument during the off-season.
  • When my Outback got broken into it took 8 weeks to get a window from the manufacture to have the dealer put in. So it is possible to take that long to get parts!
  • Is this the dealer your purchase it thru??
If not you may be forced to the back of the line for their customers come first and you got to the back every time a customer comes in.
I can't believe they are waiting 4 weeks for parts???
Heck , half (or more) of all parts are universal thru out the industry.
  • Maybe you should ask them, but I doubt you will like the probable answer!
