I did a lot of miles with a 4 door crew cab, and an emanual transmission with my 96 6.5td! IE over 100K miles! None of my kids when they were adult size teens, twins sons at 5'16" would not handle that back seat of a burb, ex or equal. Even my daughters that are 5'8 and 5'9 like it in the back!
Get a van if you need the room! Even a detuned dmax is better than a 6.0 gas. The gas rigs will lose 2-3% per 1000' of elevation, so at 10K feet you are down some 20-30% of your HP! at least with a detuned turbo diesel, you still have 100% of sea level HP. My 6.5td did way better towing thru yellowstone than my previous tbi454 did! There are probably MANY reason why, but the turbo was a life saver when we were over 5-6K' elevation.
