Those 8.1L's are toasty in stock form. I have a 2002 Chevy 3500 DRW pickup with the 8.1L and Allison, and you can feel the heat coming off when you get where you're going.
(Which, BTW is not a rusty hulk because it's never been driven in winter, either by myself or its original owner.)
