Family of six looking for tow vehicle

Hello! We are a tall family of six. Kids are between 5'8-6'2. Trying to find a vehicle that could tow a TT (not purchased yet). The crossovers are too small inside to fit us. Looking at this vehicle:
Ford expedition 2012
Hope the link worked I'm new. The one we found is a 4x2 in EL length. Is this going to be able to tow a decent sized trailer? What specs should we be looking at?

Thank you, Cyndi

Get a Mega Cab Dodge 3500 dually.

That would be a great vehicle for interior room.

Don't necessarily need the dually part though.

Mind you, most of the versions I like are just five passenger, all with the huge front seat console. Suppose one with front bench seat would be a real winner for the OP here.
  • Heck a crew cab pickup probably has more leg room and width than the SUV. Put a cap on the back if you want storage and get any trailer you want. The Ford crew cab has like 42" leg room in front and 42.5" in the back. I'm 6' and love the room in my cab. Also the Expedition only has like 1,700# of cargo capacity. Dry weight includes on driver at 150# add 5 people at 150# (don't know many adults/teenagers in the 150# category) and you have less than 1,000# tong weight not to mention the other stuff you'll want to pack in your SUV for the trip. For a 6,500# trailer you'll need 650# tong and 100 or so for the hitch assembly.

Super crew cab with a 6.5' bed (144.5" WB) is around the same size (131" WB) as the expedition and with a cap you can haul bikes and everything else in the bed.

    Just tossing out a idea.
  • Welcome to RV.Net, and to the future world of RVing. The Expedition is an excellent choice for a SUV like that you'd be safe towing a TT around 6,500 pounds. I'll see what TT I can find.
