I question if Dodge and Chrysler will be around much longer with their current line up of vehicles.
And yet Ford and GM are starting to look more like FCA as they discontinue sedan manufacturing in North America.
The main reason to discontinue sedans (especially large ones) is because they increase your CAFE requirement. The corporate average fuel economy numbers each manufacturer has to achieve is based on the weighted footprint(and other variables) that they sell. Every midsize or small car they sell increases the average mpg number they have to achieve so it would be smart of a manufacturer to dump cars if they mainly sell trucks.
Ford has discontinued building small cars in North America, GM discontinuing the Cruz and Volt. That won't do anything for average fuel economy. They are doing it because the big bucks are in trucks, SUV's and luxury sedans.
