Well, looks like some of their deviations did not get approved. But at least all the fixes can be addressed with a re-flash.

The 2017 updates include modified emissions software calibrations,
  • That is very good news. When it first broke that the EPA was questioning FCA lots of folks jumped the gun saying FCA was getting sued for illegal software and equated it to the VW deal. If you actually read the fine print, the issue came down to extreme conditions (like frozen DEF) when software exceptions have to be made for the SCR system. All of the manufacturers have these exceptions built in, they have to so the system can function. All the EPA was saying was that they thought there were exception conditions in the software that they had not been aware of.

At no point was FCA accused of cheating for emissions testing like VW. Basically FCA engineers just had to set down with the EPA and go line by line through the software controls and explain how the exceptions that the EPA questioned played within the rules.

No doom and gloom, just answering some questions. Now it's just time to move on.

  • That is good news. I was looking forward to the upcoming diesel Wrangler. With this EPA hold, I was thinking it would be another few years off.
