Glad you made it safely and in one piece. Honestly after reading all that the brakes would have failed one way or another so it is probably a blessing in disguise it was in slow traffic and not in a different situation. Enjoy the races!
Luckily for me my wife understands things break and fail and while the money spent is unfortunate and could have been used elsewhere she would just roll with the punches. Hopefully your wife is understanding also as this wasn't really your fault nor was it something you enjoyed.
