Have it serviced, check belts and hoses, and go for it. I had a 2001 dully with 8.1 and Allison. My son bought it and he just hauled a heavy trailer to Arizona with out any sort of problem. It may not be a diesel, but it's as good as it gets in a gas rig. Good luck whatever you decide.
