Having owned an 01' Chevy 2500 8.1/Allison and it was a towing animal. BUT...mpg was really bad..Will spend most money on fuel, but OP has the gasser and the tranny to tow what he's wanting to tow with...If not mistaken, I believe the 8.1/A has a 4.10, at least I think it did in my truck..
I don't know the weight on the 5er he's towing
