After 6 long months of looking for a new dedicated tow vehicle, finally found and purchased one this week. Found a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500 HD crewcab 2wd. Has the 6.0 with 4.10s. SLT Model with power everything (much better than the work truck models I have been looking at with power nothing and rubber floors) Has only 65,000 miles on it and had it inspected by my mechanic and he agreed this truck is a gem. Extremely well kept and maintained, absolutely no rust whatsoever! He tested and went through everything, and said this is a great great truck.I am 100% confident I wont have my extreme white knuckles anymore that I have had for so long while towing my 7,000# travel trailer with my Tahoe. I can finally tow more relaxed with my new truck.Only negative I can complain about is the truck is a crew cab(which we had to have for 3 dogs and a child and 2 adults) and a 8' bed which makes it a long truck. I know I can handle the length as I drive much longer CDL trucks everyday at work. I have heard this is an advantage with towing travel trailers for more control with the long wheelbase.

Mine is a no options 02 but is 6.0/4L80E/4.10 truck. Crew Cab Long bed. It has 35,000 miles on it right now. You get used to length. The long wheel base is awesome for towing. My TT is 35 feet overall and comes in at just under 7500 pounds on the scales loaded for camping. It tows it fine even on the some of the passes out west. The 6.0 will happily cruise along at 4000 RPM on the bigger passes.Enjoy!

LS1Mike----wow only 35,000 miles for an 02' that pretty amazing! What is your non towing mpg on your truck? I cant imagine it being any good at all these trucks being built to tow.

I don't drive it much. It is my dedicated tow vehicle. I towed about 3500 miles this summer total, All over Washington, Idaho and Montana, truck did find. I averaged right around 8.4 mpg for all that.Your 07 as recall makes somewhere around 63 more HP and 13 FT/LBS of torque. I believe yours is 363HP and 373 ft/lbs of torque, mine is 300 and 360.Out here where the this truck lives we don't have rust. My daily driver is a 98 Regal, looks new underneath, just like the truck!

wish rust wasn't an issue up here in Ohio, but unfort. it can destroy the underside of a vehicle.

Nice find, it will be a huge improvement over the Tahoe

Yes believe it or not we have 7 more trips planned this fall with my in laws!
Forgot to mention the best part of getting my new tow vehicle. I got to keep my 03' Tahoe that runs like a million bucks. Its been retired as my dedicated tow vehicle, and my wife has been driving it as her daily driver for few months. Only has 116,000 on it! Might still use it to tow our 20' boat on occasion if we are going to a sketchy boat ramp as its 4wd and the new trucks not.

Any trips planned before the end of the season? We have one last trip ourselves in a week for a w/e halloween trip for the kids! Can't wait to see how our new 2600HD does as well!!!

Congrats on the new truck. Your are going to love the way that truck tows your trailer compared to a Tahoe.

They only undercoated the frame, not sure why they even did that in Washington. Which is where it has spent all it's life. But the exhuast and everything else under there is orignal.

My bump stomps sit like yours. They actually touch the lower control arm.

Seems they just get beat up pretty bad. The ones I put on were much nicer than the originals.

One thing I did do was ditch the stock shocks and threw some KYB Monomax shocks on there. Pretty much stopped all the porposing.
They work well for 54 bucks a piece.

Looks like it was undercoated, you can see the overspray on the fuel lines and filter....

Agree on the "bump stops", changed mine and also went with KYB shocks.

One comment: I found out that those aren't really bump stops...if you look, you will see that the lower control arm actually rests slightly on this bumper. This rubber thingy is actually designed to work as part of the suspension along with the torsion bars. The way it was explained to me is that torsion bars have a very linear spring rate, so these blocks add a level of progressive resistance to give the overall spring rate a more progressive profile, ie the more it compresses the more force it takes to compress it. When I changed mine, I found out that the right was one totally gone! As in not there! New ones really helped.

I would be replacing those bump stops with Timbrens. They are much preferred if you are engaging those bump stops that much.

I think I paid 40 bucks for them shipped from GM parts direct.

Another place to check is Rock Auto. That is where I got my shocks.
