For tools, I carry a couple of screwdriver, pliers, minimum wrenches and a small ratchet driver set, shovel, axe and hammer. Small chainsaw if I think I need it. No 250 pounds of tools.
In many parts of the country getting water is an issue. I always try to keep my tank topped off.
I have also found my tool kit is a bit bigger. I include a tape measure, ropes, cords and bungie cords, HD extension cord, tire air compressor, extra water fill hose and large jug with funnel, small hand crank drill and bits, hacksaw with metal and wood blades, electrical test meter, hair dryer to speed up defrosting the refrig/freezer, duct tape, epoxy, levelling blocks, chalk gun and chalk, ratchet set and a large socket for the water heater drain plug, emergency tire repair kit, small assortment of screws/nuts/bolts, small inverter and assorted charging cables for cameras/laptops/etc, lots of flashlights, Leatherman multitools, fuses/small pieces of wiring/screw on connectors, etc.
