Just because something was commonplace in the 60s and 70s doesn't mean it was right, or that it's acceptable today.
Unless you're very cautious about what soaps and other chemicals you use, you are likely contaminating the soils.
If you hold the liquids in your tanks for any period of time you are then dumping bacteria that is potentially harmful to sensitive ecosystems.
It is our responsibility on public lands to leave no trace and provide management with absolutely no justification to close them. If enough people abuse the land, harm the ecosystems, and cause other damages, our access will be revoked. Carrying out your grey water is a very simple and easy part of leaving no trace. If 200-300lbs of water turns your rig from workable to dangerously unstable, you should probably look into that.
