Says the people who research the factors that cause accidents. Also, the truck that you say pulls any grade easily and gets pretty good mpg is going below the speed limit almost everywhere.
Your math is wrong for how much you are saving. Diesel isn’t that expensive or your mpg would have to go really down while doing the speed limit to save multiples of $50 at the speed limit.

Btw, there is an easy solution. Drive the shorter prettier roads and leave intersttats to the people who drive the speed limit. There is almost always a shorter distance if you drive the backroads.
