Full fuel CUT!
Most modern vehicles have DBW, and those also with automatic transmissions have Engine/transmission control firmware that will optimize FE during periods of coastdown due to gas pedal release.
The ECU keeps the engine turning over above stall via downshifting as required and then a final upshift and fuel flow restore once the roadspeed gets to low.
