Finding insurance for potential camper purchase.

Question

I may have a chance to buy a 32 ft Passport Ultra Lite travel trailer. Right now the sellers wife wasn't ready to sell it. But the husband is still ready to sell. So, while I wait for the Mrs. to get on board with selling I called my insurance agent to get a quote for insurance the camper. Right now the camper is sitting on a lot inside a resort. When I purchase it I will also keep it on the save lot. My insurance company represents Progressive and said they are not writing policies for campers that sit on a lot and not being towed back and forth.

What would you do to insure this camper?

I might ask some questions about why? Are they worried you live in it full time? Do you not have a tow vehicle? What if you leave it there for a while, how long before they require it to be moved?

I wouldn't lie or violate the written terms but answers may present an alternative.

I second what Valhalla said; in addition, I would skip the agent and talk directly to the company.

1) I have a tow vehicle. Although I am not sure how much my Ram 1500 can tow.

2) Not living in it full-time as I still live and work in another state.

3) I don't plan on moving it...even though it can be moved. It is currently on a lot in a very nice lakeside resort. You would think towing it would be more likely to have an accident than parking it on a lot.

All good questions.

I guess I'll have to wait until I purchase it.

Insurance as a residence is different than recreational vehicle insurance.&nbsp;

People living in RVs full time may have higher claims than people who tow 3-4 times per year but that's why you need to ask them what the concern is. I was just speculating on why it might be an issue.

Unless your half ton is a unicorn with max everything ratings, it's likely going to be over the ratings, so while insurance rarely asks about it, I wouldn't point it out.
