I only have personal knowledge about 2 states. May or may not help.

In NC you can conceal carry, OR open carry. Your choice. You can carry it on your hip, or in your pocket.

In SC. You CANNOT open carry. So if you are stopped and your weapon is in the open. It can be confiscated.
