I have a friend who owns a tire store and he says some oem tires will not last as long as their aftermarket counterparts of the same model. He says the vehicle manufacturer can have tires made to their specs with softer compounds which will give better handling, softer ride, and less road noise for the benefits of new vehicle test drives. This stands to reason as most of the bad reviews on transforce at tirerack seem to be newer Ram trucks with the oem tires.
Your friend has it a bit wrong. I go into it in detail here:
Barry's Tire Tech - OE Tires
Short version: The car companies have different design goals, so they specify tires that are better for fuel economy and they do that by sacrificing treadwear.
Yer a little off there Capri dude.
Softer tread = worse mileage. Harder compound = longer lasting and less rolling resistance. Albeit on a very small scale. More about tread design and tire pressure.
