Firman W03081 3,300 W Gasoline Powered Inverter Generator

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this genset. for sale at costco in canada, cheaper than anywhere else by almost 200 bucks, the online reviews are mostly glowing and only a few negative experiences. I was really looking for a propane powered unit but in reading the discussions have decided against the added cost and the one i wanted is not available in canada anymore.
I have a 28 ft jayco TT with a 13,500 BTU AC unit that I would probably only need to use while on the road, would be staying at campsites with power most of the time.
  • Just because it is an inverter doesn't mean it's going to be quiet.
  • I just ordered one from Costco.ca as well. Seems like a decent deal for $749 Cdn.
  • Well I pulled the trigger and ordered one from Costco. Received it two days later. Inboxed it and oiled it up and checked out the choke cable that some people had claimed was an issue for sticking in the full choke position. It was okay . Loading the crankcase with oil was a bit dicey as the instructions did not say how much oil to use. ( slightly less than the quart bottle supplied) so I had to keep pulling the funnel and putting in the dipstick. Fired up on second pull and ran great. A little noisier than I was expecting but manageable . I plugged the rv in, and it ran everything , I shut everything down and started the AC and had to run the fan first then kick the AC on and it ran fine,
It finally kicked out on overload after firing up a bunch of stuff but I can't remember the combination of stuff that kicked it out. I noticed the power cord getting warm after running with AC on for about 2 hours. Once I finish the 5 hours breakin I will post back my final comments
  • I bought one of the Firman generators you described for $715.00 delivered to my door from Newegg inc. It started right up and after break-in time I plugged it in to my rig and fired up the 13.5 air conditioner and it never even made tone change in the engine. No idea what the longevity is as I only have it for emergency. I pull it out to the tail gate of the truck every month and fire it up with the electric start and it always starts. Then I shut the gas off and let it run out 'til next time. Just looking at it, it seems to be a very well made little guy. Came with a very good manual and some tools.
  • Firman is a Chinese company, BUT they employ 80,000 workers over a huge range of products and make 3,000 generators per day for worldwide distribution. All of their equipment is from internal design. They probably are not fly by night as they offer a 3 year warranty.

I don't own or represent Firman, but have done my homework as I'm about to buy a new generator.

That may be why the OP is asking instead of spending. Do you know anything good or bad about the product in question or is every low priced option junk? The manufacturers often get market share with bargain prices. Even Honda started that way.

  • Thanks kerrlakeRoo i was leaning towards the champion model the same size but 3-400 dollars more can't justify.
  • Never heard of those, but a search shows them being sold down here by k Mart, as well as Walmarts And the normal internet outlets. Size and the models seemed to mirror the Champion brand units including the remote start. Appearance is similar too. 171 ohv engine is a size of a common Honda clone made in China. The engine is apparently fairly reliable. Sorry I can't say more. Good luck.
