Get the roof sealed first. If you've been reading the forum, you've heard of Eternabond and Dicor Self Leveling Caulk.
Are you familiar with Tin Can Tourists? It's a site for vintage TT's. I don't know if your 81 is considered vintage but, you may be able to find some information if no one on the forum can answer your questions.
