You will surely soon be hearing from the weight police (which is awesome, they are very knowledgeable).
We have a 2010 4.8L Silverado our camper is “listed” at #3700 dry / #7500 gvwr. To sum it up our rig tows very well, with the limited info on your setup (assuming it is similar to ours) I can tell you the following:
This will not be like towing your pop-up (we came from a pop-up as well) you will indeed know it is back there
You should be able to safely pull and stop the camper but:
- You will definitely need a properly setup WDH and sway control
- You will probably want to keep it 65 or less
- We are in pretty flat lands here in the southeast, but plan on your trans downshifting on steeper grades
- Coming from a pop-up it seems like you would pack light, but eventually you’ll load it up
- The dry weight listed is always lower than the actual dry weight with options, so always go with the GVWR
With that being said ours tows very well, but yours would be quite a bit heavier, if it is within the numbers (the weight police will let you know if it is) you should be fine, but don’t push it for you and your family’s sake.
