Hello everybody. Ok here it goes me and the family sold the pop up in the spring now looking to upgrade on a budget. I have a wife and two kids. Tow vehicle is a 2012 Silverado 1/2 ton with the 4.8. I found a 2008 jayco jay flight 26bh on Craigslist for 8000.00. From what i have found the dry weight is 4450 lbs. My truck is rated to pull 5500-7500 lbs ? It does have a towing package with it . Does this sound like it will work? I do plan on making some long trips and tring to safety have a decent camper for the family. New truck and camper is not going to happen. I have to find something my truck can pull and would like to stay away from canvas. Thank you

I don't know about the truck but that 26BH is about $2,500 overpriced.

I just looked at the sticker on my door (just learned about in another post ) Gvwr is 7000 lbs . So i cant pull 4450 lbs with a truck rated for 7000 . I know i have to add all of are gear and a couple of young kids weight but i dont see that being over a 1000 lbs. We always say at a campground so i would never fill the water tank. Im not trying to argue and respect everyone's opinion i just dont understand why? If NO... period then what is the max weight i sould be looking for?

You need to find out your truck's payload capacity first. A 4600 lbs trailer plus 1000 lbs of "stuff" will have a tongue weight of about 700 to 800 lbs. So you gotta figure if your truck is capable of handling that weight, plus the hitch, you, passengers, equipment, tools, camping gear, etc.I pulled a 5600 lb trailer for quite a few years with my 4.7L Tundra. It was not happy doing it, so I upgraded with a supercharger to up the HP to over 350hp and then it did pretty good. I also had to put air bags on the rear axle, and eventually got a Hensley Arrow to eliminate sway. My tongue weight was about 800 lbs.So, you can probably do it, but I don't think you or the truck will be happy.Good luckRon

2012 Towing GuideIs your truck a standard cab, extended cab, or crew cab?2X4 or 4X4?What axle ratio? The code can be found on the build sticker on the glove box door. Look for the code(s) beginning with "G" and either post them here or Google them.Now find your tow rating but that's the minor part of the equation.On the driver's door jamb there will be a yellow sticker with the payload rating. This is NOT the weight of trailer you can tow, that's the GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating.)Figure that trailer will gross out at 5700# or so with a 800-900# tongue weight. Now add the hitch, passengers, and gear to that and see if you're over the 7000# limit.And even if you make it under the weight limit the 4.8 is a bit anemic for towing.

What does the yellow sticker on your driver's side door say your available payload is? It is on that sticker -- just look carefully.

Doug, to lighten the load, you might consider a hybrid trailer (HTT). I know you said you don't want to mess with canvas, but these can be a good lightweight option for a family. The trailer itself is full-height, so loading it is much easier than a popup, but the beds (canvas-covered) deploy in camp, giving you more living space for the trailer length than a regular fully-hard-sided trailer does. You might find a good option here for you, without having to change out your truck.

I had a 2003 27BH and it weighed 6000lbs ready to camp. So depending on your actual TV set up you may not be within the tow rating of your TV.

Agree, GO BUCKS!! Agree, lots to learn. Huge difference in #s listed. 4500# is likely the dry weight....as in bare bones, naked, empty. You'll have another # for GVWR in the trailer. Allow yourself about 1000# from that figure. Lots more to learn and others better to answer your questions. Suggestion is DO NOT get in a hurry. Some have and then are in the market for a new truck or to sell the trailer they just bought. Lots to learn about your truck as well. Get your calculator. Good luck....we've all been there.

All kidding aside that truck will be plenty for that TT. Even though you have the 5.3 I'ld keep the weights you are looking at. It's your payload carrying weight limit that will be the hardest to stay under.
Wouldn't matter if you had a 700hp V8 in it, it's still a 7000lb GVW truck.
