First RV Purchase

Leaks are the number one concern (to me). Wood rot can be a serious repair challenge. Look for water damage and soft spots. Typically when people talk about water damage, they're more referring to intrusion from the roof, windows, exterior lights, speakers, etc. Plumbing leaks happen too, but are not nearly as common.

I wouldn't worry about brand as much as condition and features. Try to think about how you'll use your new toy. Holding tank size might end up being important. Or ground clearance. Lots of considerations. Fun process!

If you are asking about quality of used KZ and Keystone trailers, we haven't got a clue without seeing the unit.

There are routine maintenance items that need to be done on all RV's. If the previous owners didn't do that maintenance properly, it could be junk. It doesn't matter what company built that unit.

Look for obvious signs of leaking. Look in every cabinet, closet, and storage space. Look for discoloration of floor tile and soft spots in the floor.

On the outside, look for cracked caulking seams around the running lights, corner seams, on the roof, and around windows. Look for any visible screw heads, if they are rusty, could be water damage behind them. Look for cracks in the fiberglass. Look for evidence of water inside the running lights (water lines / mud inside the lenses). If the lights have been filling with water, water has been going inside the walls.

Look under the trailer. You're giong to see rust, but, does any of that rust go through the metal?

Ask about age of tires. If they are more than four years old, they may need to be replaced, even if they look good.

Ask for demonstration of all systems working. (heat, A/C, plumbing, lights,etc)
