Well, that's what happens when you don't do your homework, and when the oil filter is OEM only.
Give it a little while, and Purolator or some other generic company will have the specs and have a filter.
As for DEF and the price of oil, the guy went to the dealer for service.
Did he really expect anything except a sore posterior and an empty wallet afterwards?
