It seems to me, on the old pilot models, that the thermocouple needs replacing, or the air mixture adjusted, when they will not stay lit. The wind can also suck the pilot out.
I used to stick a toothpick in the corner of the door, to help with the air, and wind issue. OP could try a toothpick, to hold the door corner open a little.
