Yes, the 2011 models had a different transmission shifting strategy. The transmission upshifted much to soon and held higher gears way to long, before downshifting. 2012 and later the shift strategy was changed and allowed the transmission to get the power the engine had. Ford most likely had the lazy shift strategy to get better mileage but it crippled the power of the 5.0L.

You drove a 2011 with your trailer long enough for the transmission to learn your driving habits and towing weights? With my new truck it took nine hundred miles to see a shift pattern change towing .
