First Trip in New to Me F350

I recently picked up a 2006 F350 long bed crew cab diesel to replace my '04 Expedition. I can't get over how much better this is for towing! I just set the cruise at 65 and tick along all day long.

My favorites:
  1. Huge 38 gallon tank lets me run almost eight hours towing in the flat lands
  2. Stopping at the truck stop diesel island is so much easier than a regular gas station, I can put 30 gallons in the tank in less than 2 minutes
  3. Fuel economy boost from 9 MPG (Expy) to 12 MPG
  4. I no longer get tensed up when I see a hill, the truck just goes up it, no worries
  5. It's quieter than my 5.4 was since it's turning so much slower


Best moment was passing a 1/2 ton Toyota that was towing a much smaller trailer up a 5% grade in Wyoming. I love this truck!

    LOL... What I meant was that sweet turbo whistle that the 6.0 turbo makes... My 6.7 turbo barely makes any whistle, but boy does it perform! :B

    Total combined miles from my last two Fords is 195k miles and not a single turbo problem to date. Thank you very much :B

    Oh... One another note when you purchase that 6.7 Cummins be sure to get the salesman to throw in a can of this!

    Oh okay. Great no turbo problem then. I'm actually shooting for free DEF from the dealer as I hear they are really sucking it down :W

    Don't need any gauges to inform you have a ECT/EOT temperature problem. The "wrench" light will turn off if the temp delta exceeds 15F.


    No light ever came on and my delta was 44°. If I did not have my San Gauge I would hate to see what kind of catastrophic damage I would have caused my engine. $120.00 to possibly save $10000 is a great investment in my opinion.


    Is your truck a 05-07 with the latest flash? I know the 03-04 doesn't have this feature.

    Congrats on the truck.

    But I got to tell ya, the guy in the Tundra was not likely struggling up the hill. He was probably driving at his speed threshold.

    My gas V10 kept up just fine with my buddies 6.0 on our 1200 mile trip.

    Love my 06 F350 also, pulls our 12600 lb fiver like its not even there. Make sure you purchase some type of gauge to monitor your engine coolant temp and engine oil temp. Should not be more than 15 degrees apart driving at highway speed unloaded. I have the Scan Gauge II and really like it.     Depends on how many miles it has but chances are it's allready had it happen at least once it just depends on what they did to fix it the first time as to wheather it will happen again. Easiest thing to do is check and see if it has ARP head studs, if it does chances are it will be fine.
