Hi everyone, we will be taking delivery of our new Palomino Solaire towards the end of April. We have a few summer trips planned, but wanted to get a first family trip fairly locally since we are first time owners (thinking Memorial Day weekend or there about).I'm looking for recommendations for nice places in Central to North NJ, or Eastern PA., for a long weekend. I have two children age 12 and 14, so need someplace where there are activities to keep them active. I'm aware of a few KOA sites in the area, wanted to see if there were anything else that folks that recommend. Or is KOA the way to go?Thanks in advance for your help.

I would look for a state park, or a Corps of Engineers campground instead of a KOA. The few KOA campgrounds I've been in were mostly a big field with trailers lined up side by side.It might be tough to get a reservation this close to the holidays though.

Your kids will find lots to do and experience at a state park or federal campground that won’t be the same old thing...Internet, playground, pool etc. They may get to see a deer, raccoon, fox, hawk or a bear but not if you take them to a KOA or other developed RV spot next to a busy highway on the edge of a town.

French Creek or Codorus , both in eastern PA. They both have swimming pools for swimming and lakes for fishing or kayaking. As previously mentioned, it may be difficult to get a reservation for the holiday weekend

How long is the RV?

Im sure your not boondock ready so need a full hook up site correct?

Delaware Water Gap KOA is a decent place. Lots for kids.
I think you will be better off at a private CG with full hook up for your 1st trip. Full hook up gives you a better chance to check out everything and planned activities keep the kids occupied.
Nothing wrong with state parks. Cordorus and French Creek are both nice places that you may want to check out. But to get your feet wet and do a shake down trip. Stick with a full hook up place.

Holiday weekends are tough, you must have reservations. I got mine 6 mo. ago.

You’re in a good place for a Thousand Trails membership. The parks are first come, first served for site selection so it can be a little bit of a challenge.

There are a handful of parks in the area and all will have kids and activities.

You can't get reservations in WA State unless you are 9 mo out and it's not a holiday weekend..

I don't do holiday weekends anymore (for the last 15 years).. Just too many people that don't have a clue and not fun anymore for me..

What kind of things are your kids interested in? Is it nature stuff, or activity stuff or ??

That's where you need to focus on if you are looking to keep the kids from just being on their phones the whole time..
